India will observe the final
National Lok Adalat of the year on 13 December 2025. On this day, courts
across the country – from the Supreme Court to District and Taluk levels – sit
in a special mode to encourage settlement of disputes through compromise.
Instead of adversarial hearings and long procedures, the focus is on quick,
affordable and consensual resolution.

(PRAN) is sharing this guide so that citizens can make the most of the National
Lok Adalat. While media often talks only about “challan discounts”, Lok Adalat
is actually a powerful access-to-justice mechanism useful for a wide range
of disputes.
What Is National Lok Adalat?
National Lok Adalat is
organised under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. It helps
implement Article 39A of the Constitution, which mandates equal access
to justice for all.
Key features include:
- Held nationwide on a single day
- Covers pending and pre-litigation
matters
- Encourages dispute settlement through mutual
consent
- Award is final,
binding, and treated as a court decree
- Simple, friendly process with no
strict procedural rules

for drunk driving or serious accident cases)

3. Cheque Bounce (Sec 138 NI
Act)
- Negotiated repayment
- Instalment plans
- Closure of criminal complaints

- One-time settlement (OTS)
5. Motor Accident Claims
(MACT)
- Compensation settlement with insurance
companies

- Aadhaar/PAN or any valid ID
- All case-related papers / notices
- Loan statements / credit card bills (if
applicable)
- Challan details (for traffic cases)
- RC, Driving Licence, PUC (for vehicle
issues)
- Any previous offers or communication

How to Use National Lok
Adalat Effectively
- Identify the disputes you want to settle
- Contact your DLSA or the nearest
Legal Services Committee
- Get your case listed for Lok Adalat
- Attend the hearing on 13 December
- Negotiate calmly and fairly
- Once agreed, get the Lok Adalat Award
(keep a copy safely)
Important Reminder
- Settlement happens only through
mutual consent
- Serious and non-compoundable criminal
cases cannot be settled
- Lok Adalat awards are generally final
and not appealable – agree only if you are fully satisfied
