PRAN Foundation · Legal Aid Initiative 2026
Legal Aid Initiative
A structured, volunteer-driven legal guidance initiative connecting citizens — especially those who cannot afford legal fees — with rights information, document drafting support, and official legal aid authorities such as NALSA and District Legal Services Authorities.
Our mission: to bridge the gap between grassroots legal grievances and structured justice mechanisms — prioritising those for whom justice is a financial barrier, not a choice.
- 👉 Citizens who genuinely cannot afford private legal counsel or court fees
- 👉 Marginalised individuals unaware of their rights or the legal system
- 👉 First-time seekers who need guidance on where to go and what to do
- 👉 Those who need referral to NALSA, DLSA, or consumer forums
- 👉 Anyone needing basic document drafting or rights awareness support

🤝 How Our Volunteer Network Helps
Voluntary Guidance — PRAN volunteer advocates and law students review your concern and provide general legal guidance on your rights, options, and next steps — purely on a voluntary basis. No advocate-client relationship is created.
Referral to Legal Aid Authorities — Where you are eligible, we connect you to official legal aid bodies including the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA), and State Legal Services Committees who provide free court representation under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
Document Drafting Support — Volunteers may assist in drafting RTI applications, consumer complaints, grievance letters, or awareness notes — subject to capacity and eligibility review.
Rights Awareness — We explain your legal rights in plain language so you can make informed decisions — whether you proceed independently, through a legal aid authority, or through a private advocate.
Our volunteers are enrolled advocates, law students, retired legal officers, and NGO partners — all contributing voluntarily. Are you a legal professional? Join our network →
This initiative exists for those who need it most. If you can afford a private advocate, we respectfully encourage you to engage one. Our volunteer bandwidth is reserved for citizens for whom the cost of justice is a genuine barrier.

Please read the following operational guardrails carefully before engaging with our network:
No Advocate-Client Relationship
All assistance is provided by PRAN volunteers on a purely voluntary basis. Submission of an intake form, interaction with our volunteers, or use of our resources does not constitute or create a formal advocate-client relationship at any stage.
Nature of Assistance — Guidance & Referral, Not Representation
PRAN provides voluntary legal guidance, rights awareness, document drafting support, and referral to official legal aid authorities (NALSA/DLSA). We do not provide paid legal services, guarantee court representation, or finance litigation fees. This initiative is not a substitute for a private advocate for those who can afford one.
No Emergency Liability
PRAN is a digital policy research and guidance network, not an emergency first-response agency. For immediate threats to life, liberty, or safety, please contact official state emergency services or the police directly.
Pro Bono Integrity
All services provided by PRAN Foundation volunteers are strictly free of cost. PRAN maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any financial demands.
